The job system is done for now. As a test job woodcutting is now fully functional. It’s pretty easy to add new jobs to the system like scavenging, hunting, farming et cetera. Of course there is a lot to improve on the system code and usability wise but for now it will do. I’ve attached a screenshot below to show you a little bit what kinds of grids players can drag with their tools and how the survivors will move to their targets. First I dragged a grid and queued the tree cutting jobs, the survivors moved to their jobs, meanwhile I quickly dragged a second grid to show that off.

I’m very pleased with the job queue and distribution system. It’s awesome when a plan comes together. Dragging the grid is still a little buggy so that’ll have to be fixed as soon as possible.

Next step is resource generation. The group is supposed to generate resources from jobs that have been completed. For example if one of the survivor chops a tree down then the group should get wood. I’m not sure yet if I’ll drop it to the ground like in RimWorld or immediately add it to a virtual balance. The first option has my preference but keeping the scope down is also very important for now. I might opt for the second choice to keep the scope down and implement the first option at a later stage.
